Self-teaching network security through homelab chaos and real infrastructure.

I'm Jacob — aka Hackatoa (hacker + Krakatoa, it's a volcano pun). Self-taught developer and CompTIA student building real infrastructure to learn security from the ground up. My homelab runs a 3-node Proxmox cluster, self-hosted services, and a games platform — and it breaks in interesting ways that teach me things textbooks don't.

Recent & favorite builds

A mix of infrastructure, tooling, and tinkering.

Hackatoa.com · main site

The volcano-themed home base. Built with vanilla JS and CSS — no frameworks — featuring a time-driven background that shifts between day, sunset, and night based on your local clock. Deployed via GitHub Actions to self-hosted infrastructure on a Proxmox homelab.

Lab tooling & security notes

Scripts, configs, and notes from the homelab — Bash automation, Linux hardening, service deployments, and whatever breaks on a given week. Studying toward CompTIA A+ and Network+, so a lot of this is hands-on practice documented as I go.

Hackatoa Games

A self-hosted browser games platform — free, no account, no ads. Infinisweeper is an infinite shared Minesweeper board anyone can play simultaneously. 1v1 Minesweeper is a competitive head-to-head race. Tic-Tac-Toe Online is the classic 3×3 played live with a friend. All running on the homelab.

Clip Forge · Browser Video Editor

A fully browser-based video editor — no uploads, no server processing. All rendering happens locally using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Multi-track timeline with video, audio, text, and shape layers, voiceover recording, transitions, audio splitting, and per-track volume control.
